Grof® (Holotropic) Breathwork Workshop – Journey with the Inner Teacher

About the event –
Join us for a powerful weekend of self-discovery, healing, and transformation through Grof® Breathwork , the profound method developed by Dr. Stanislav Grof. Rooted in transpersonalpsychology and non-ordinary states of consciousness, this experiential practice uses deep, connected breathing, evocative music, and focused bodywork to access the innate wisdom of the psyche.
In this community-centered workshop, we create a sacred and supportive space for each participant to explore their inner landscape. Working in pairs, each person will have the opportunity to both breathe and sit — holding space for one another in a deep spirit of trust and presence. This collective field enhances the healing potential, reminding us that though the journey is personal, we are never alone.
The workshop includes:
- An introduction to the principles of Grof® Breathwork
- A full breathwork session (one experience as a breather and one as a sitter)
- Integration practices including sharing, journaling, and grounding
- Community connection and reflection
No prior experience is necessary — only an open heart and willingness to surrender to your inner healer. Whether you are seeking emotional release, spiritual insight, or a deeper connection with yourself and others, this workshop offers a safe and sacred container for profound inner work.
About Breathwork –
Breathwork is an experiential method of self-exploration and psychospiritual healing that induces deep, non-ordinary, “holotropic” (moving toward wholeness) states of consciousness using conscious connected breathing, carefully curated music, and, when called for, special bodywork that helps to release bioenergetic and emotional blocks. It draws on elements from modern consciousness research, depth psychology, transpersonal psychology, Eastern spiritual philosophies, and native healing practices to utilize the extraordinary healing power of holotropic states.
Breathwork provides access to many domains of the unconscious and opens psychospiritual pathways to healing and spiritual evolution. The process of self-exploration in holotropic states of consciousness is spontaneous and autonomous and is governed by the inner healing intelligence that resides in each of us.
We will meet on Zoom the Wednesday evening before breathwork to prepare for the journey. During the day-long breathwork experience, you will pair with another participant. One of you will serve as a sitter and one as a breather in the morning session, and you will switch places in the afternoon. Following your breathwork session, you will be invited to capture the essence of your experience by creating a mandala. We will end the day with a celebratory dinner followed by a sharing circle to begin integrating your experience.
(Participation in this workshop counts toward the requirements of anyone pursuing training and certification with Grof® Legacy Training.)

Ashley Mannell, PMHNP
Ashley Mannell is a nurse practitioner and the founder of Nourish Health & Wellness, an integrative psychiatry practice in Richmond, VA. With certifications in functional medicine, mind-body medicine, and extensive training in ketamine and psychedelic-assisted therapy, Ashley is passionate about helping people uncover and address the root causes of mental and emotional distress—rather than simply “medicating” symptoms.
Her journey into expanded states of consciousness began in 2021 with training in ketamine-assisted therapy, which inspired her to pursue advanced study in psychedelic-assisted modalities. In 2022, she completed training in MDMA-assisted therapy through MAPS and the California Institute of Integral Studies. In 2024, Ashley joined the Grof Legacy Breathwork Facilitator Training Program, deepening her commitment to sharing the healing potential of non-ordinary states of consciousness with her community. She is also currently training as a somatic experiencing practitioner, integrating body-based trauma resolution into her work.
In her personal life, Ashley finds deep joy and meaning in raising her three lovely teenage daughters (together with her “best-girl-dad” husband Ben), whose growth and individuality continually inspire her. Her Cavalier King Charles dog Steve is the other love of her life and accompanies her almost everywhere she goes. An avid reader, she is especially drawn to the rich truths and lived experiences found in non-fiction and memoirs. She loves to travel and explore new landscapes—particularly the vast, soul-stirring beauty of the American West—which has been deeply intertwined with her own inner work and profound transformation. Through practices such as breathwork, these journeys have rekindled within her a vibrant sense of awe, wonder, and delight in both the world around her and her own unfolding healing journey.
